Waiting on the World to Change
The Time is Near
So it’s no big surprise to the majority of this country that Authoritarianism and Dictatorships don’t work. Well, they may “work” for a hot second, but it doesn’t work for long. In reality, suppressing the will of the people only gets you so far until the will of the people begins to leak out sideways and in most instances all hell breaks loose.
Obviously, there is no better image of this imminent explosion than what we are seeing in our country today. For a Tarot-Practitioner, like myself, this would be the image of the “Tower” card. An unmistakable image of a Tower, literally falling down and crumbling to the ground. This is the exact card I drew when I was doing a Tarot Reading in the Fall of 2024, prior to the Presidential Election. The Tower Card was right smack-dab in the middle of a three card spread which is considered the card depicting the present moment. Clearly, still waiting for the future card to kick in, which was much more stable and reassuring, as we continue to witness a seismic collapse of government structures and safety nets.
My hope, however, is that the Millennials, our future leaders, will heed this call to action and bring about the evolutionary change we are all waiting for. Yes, the same Millennials that have often gotten a bad rap and being called: “entitled, lazy and immature.” How can we be waiting on these “children” to lead the way? My guess is that these children are way more emotionally mature than we know. These children seem to have an innate sense of justice, compassion, and empathy that is sorely needed in a world that can no longer sustain its greed and selfish desires to win at all costs, no matter who or what gets trampled along the way.
John Mayer’s, Waiting on the World to Change, came out in August of 2006. This Millennial Anthem, as I call it, struck me with its dismal cry for change during a period of witnessing and waiting for the destruction that was inevitably coming. The storm before the calm, the promised rainbow that would appear only after the destruction made its way through and cleared a path for new beginnings.
I don’t know about you, but this is what I’m waiting and hoping for with all my being. A future that will rise out of the ashes of this miserable time. A creativity fueled by love, acceptance, and profound understanding that digs deep and wide. A kind of world that seeks the knowledge that can only come from the heart of darkness and brings it to the light for all to benefit from, equally.
We are on the precipice of a new time, a new beginning. The kind that only history will be able to contain and preserve because, right now, we are living it! We are witnessing the coming of a new age, and though it is far from pretty, I believe our young people are done waiting and making their move. And, I for one, am here for it. How about you?
